The Prolepsis Institute participated in the 35th Athens Marathon with the AKMI Running Team to raise awareness on the DIATROFI Program

On Sunday, November 12, 2017, the Prolepsis Institute participated in the 35th Athens Authentic Marathon and run with the AKMI Running Team to support the DIATROFI Program and thousands of Greek students facing food insecurity.

On Thursday, November 9, during a Press Conference held at the amphitheater “Odisseas Elitis” at AKMI Education Centre which took place within the framework of the partnership between ΑΚΜΙ, Institute of Vocational Training (IVT AKMI) and SEGAS (Hellenic Athletics Federation), the information that IVT AKMI supports the DIATROFI Program was released as well as the scholarship program of AKMI for SEGAS champions. 

Mr. Rodopoulos, President of IVT AKMI, acknowledged and rewarded the humanitarian work of Prolepsis Institute and engaged to collaborate with Prolepsis in awareness raising projects. In his speech, Mr. Panagopoulos, President of SEGAS, referred to the DIATROFI Program stating that every year within the Marathon fundraising, donations are made to institutions and organizations in need, so this year part of the donations are offered to DIATROFI Program which will be included in the Athens Authentic Marathon social liability program.

Mrs. Athina Linos, Professor of Medical School and Chair of Dept. of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics of the Athens Medical School and President of the Prolepsis Institute expressed her gratitude to ΑΚΜΙ, Institute of Vocational Training for supporting the Program on Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition - DIATROFI. Prof. Linos added “Our joint presence in the Athens Marathon expresses the need to offer our support to thousands of students in Greece who face food insecurity and hunger. On the occasion of our participation in this major international sport event, organized by SEGAS, it is worth underlying the need for health promotion through healthy eating habits and daily physical activity for all”.

The Program on Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition - DIATROFI is implemented since 2012 by Prolepsis Institute with founding donor the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The Program’s aim is to fight food insecurity and to promote healthy habits to students in public schools located in vulnerable areas of Greece. Within the DIATROFI Program, over 14 million healthy meals have been distributed to 593 schools and to 110.500 students throughout Greece.
