Educational actions in schools using Skype in the Classroom: For the first time in Greece by the Prolepsis Institute

For the first time in Greece, the Prolepsis Institute brought to fruition interactive lectures for 6th grade students in schools participating in the DIATROFI program. The lectures, titled “Learning healthy eating habits”, were delivered through the Microsoft program: “Skype in the Classroom”.

The action aimed at promoting healthy eating and physical activity.

Through the lectures and discussions with the Prolepsis scientific staff, students were informed about the basic principles of healthy lifestyles, ways in which those principles can be integrated into everyday life, and the benefits of doing so for both the childhood and adolescent, as well as, the adult years. The students showed great interest and enthusiasm in the content of the lectures. They were thrilled with the original process of exchange of ideas and suggestions with the scientists, all communicated in real-time, thanks to Microsoft platform “Skype in the Classroom”.

The lecture “Learning healthy eating habits” transmitted through "Skype in the Classroom" are part of the healthy eating promotion actions carried out within the DIATROFI Program. The Program on Food Aid and Nutrition Education – DIATROFI, is implemented in schools in vulnerable areas by the Prolepsis Institute with support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, founding donor of the Program.

Since 2012, the DIATROFI Program has offered more than 14 million meals to 593 schools and 110,500 students across Greece.
